Potholders

This first picture (taken from my phone at work - apologies) is for my friend, bg. I made him a crappy potholder, and then I made him a grey and crimson (Bama colors) one that was pretty badass. So I made him another one with Bama colors (above) to counter the first. This is done in single crochet, and it's wicked easy. I've been doing these for years but just recently started the two-toned thing. It was an accident the first time. :-)

The last potholder is one for my friend Richard in FL. He lived with my ex back in the day and used his potholders, so he requested I make him some and even promised to buy a clip to hang them on. This is his first one, and I will begin his second one soon. It takes about 2 hours for me to make one because I'm slow (at everything I do).

Anyway, they aren't much, but I'm pleased with the way they turned out, and they will certainly serve their purpose.

I assure you, I plan to take pics of the next projects I complete. No worries. I am going to "plaid" more hangers for my mother. She has so many children these days (foster/adoptive parent), and she keeps running out of hangers. Cheap metal hangers can be wrapped with pretty yarn and be very efficient, though Joan Crawford would certainly disagree (yes, a Mommy Dearest reference).

I'm never going to post pictures on here. I apologize. I will update you on my crafting endeavors, however.

I finished two potholders, a scarf, and a washcloth and gave them to bg. He seemed to like them, so I'm going to make him another potholder. This next one will be better than the little one I gave him. It was a tad, well, shite. It was shite. But he won't burn his fingertips on his google sweatshirt anymore. There are positive moments to be had from shite-looking potholders.

I started a pink scarf (kinda a fashion scarf) that is fuzzy and wavy for my little sister, Shay. She's five and sweet as sugar. She was so excited when I gave it to her that she wrapped it around the two of us like a boa and giggled. It was worth the time and the frustration of dealing with that ridiculous yarn. The fuzziness caused it to get tangled up in itself from the skein. I was ready to pull my hair out. Her cute face made up for it 1000 times, and I'll do the same for 3 more sisters.

I just got a request from my friend Richard for a potholder. He lived with my ex for a year or more and used his. (I make a lot of potholders and have for years.) He requested I make and send him some (he lives in Florida). I am going to get on that after I finish bg's next one. bg and I are closer - in all ways.

I have yet to finish Bliss's bucket bag and Mom's cross-stitch (both Christmas gifts), but they both don't really mind. Bliss actually requested a blanket from a pattern good ol' lionbrand.com sent me. It's crocheted and very loverly (the pattern). I'll begin that when Bliss picks out/up her yarn. I'm looking forward to that little craft. It shouldn't take long, and it's easy. Sweeeeeet. I like mindless projects. And people. ;-) I also have to finish this blanket I started a while back. It's a garter stitch and simple, but you have to count and switch colors, then you bind off and pick up the stitches when you rotate it. It'll be grand when it's finished, but I put it down for a couple months, work on it for a week or two, then I put it down again. I'll definitely take pics when I finish it. I may even keep it. We'll see... Time will tell.

The 21st

This little guy is coming to live with me in 3 days, and counting. He is Herbie Hancock, II my Cocker hiSpaniel dog. He loves me so very much, but I live in a small apartment by my onesy. I fear he will get lonely and miss me during the day. However, we are going to give it a go. He is one of my favorite things on the planet, so I'm gushing incessantly about it. He's 6 or 7 years old, and his favorite pass-time is sleeping and eating. Yes, we are a match made in heaven. Peel a banana in front of this dog, and you'd think you stole his dog bowl. It's ridiculous the bulge in his whimsically askew eyeballs! I adore him so.

This is not the only thing happening on Saturday. I am also hosting a Pampered Chef party through Dos. There are several people coming out, and that should be a blast. Now, cooking is not quite one of my crafts; but you never know what will happen. Perhaps I'll be inspired into a cooking frenzy. Or perhaps I'll just continue to help Bliss in her cupcake-capades. Either way, this weekend is going to be a blast.

This past weekend I completed a scarf and a couple pot holders for my friend bg, but I have not taken a picture yet. More to come there.

Do note that this blog has turned out to be more of a wishful thinking place to post than an actual result producing place to post. If we're marking my growth on the wall, we're at a stand still. Le sigh. I have high hopes of doing better soon... as ever. :-) Yes, please. Do also wish me luck.

Yes, Yes, Oh Yay!

I just want to say I have been crafting of late. I'm working on a scarf for Greenlee, and I'm still finishing Bliss's bucket bag. I'm cross-stitching (though I haven't touched it since December) a cute snowman thing for my mother.

I say that to say this: I'm going to take pics and post soon. I've missed this place. I see my fellow crafters posting, and it inspires me. I apologize for my delay, and I promise to try harder. Wish me luck!

For the rat lovers...

This is a rather pitiful picture of it, but I wanted to post before I go down to Tuscaloosa: This is the gift I made for my rat-loving honey. He has two blue rats named Roxy and Bonnie. He calls them, "the ladies." They are beautiful and adorable, but I'm an animal lover and completely biased. Either way, I borrowed Bliss's book Katie gave her and started this Wednesday. I finished it last night, and I'm going to frame it in Southern Alabama, probably. I don't know what he'll want to do with it, so I'll ask him. I really hope he finds it as cute and clever as I did. If he doesn't, I might be in for a fight. ;) Kidding. We don't really fight. I thought this was virtually perfect for my boy. I'll let you know how it goes after this weekend. It's my five year anniversary, so I'm definitely stoked: Happy anniversary to me. :)

Some Pic-a-Tures

I am finally updating in photos. HA! I've had some craft moments this past month on random weekends at my place. It wasn't so much a Crafty Cupcake thing as people showing up with crafty things to do at random - Dos mostly.

Here she is in my floor making stuff the Saturday my aunt was in town putting up my Christmas tree (I didn't ask her to do so, btw). She is using these little bags. She's sewing little felt items on them and embroidering them together and creating cool stuff with buttons. It truly fascinates me.



She ended up staying most the night. Some others showed up for some movie watching, and we spent the evening chilling out, having some beer, and crafting from time to time. Mostly, we just laughed a lot and watched movies.

I started this hat thing for Reggiepants. He sent me a picture, and I thought I could crochet it pretty quickly. I fear I've lost interest, so it's basically gone nowhere, but here is a picture of the beginning. It's a pony tail rasta thingy. :) That's not its official name.





Here's one of my bestest bffs in the world. This is from craft night at her place a while back. She is just embroidering away and getting uber annoyed that one of her bestest bffs in the world will not stop taking photographs of her. Nevertheless, I think she's adorable. I believe her other bffs will appreciate the gifts she is making for them. They have turned out beautifully.

This is a picture to show I'm farther on that blinking scarf I've been working on. I got bored with it too (notice a pattern), so I stopped working on it. I'm going to finish it Thanksgiving weekend so I can give it to my grandmother to sell for whatever she's selling it for. It's a little longer than this, but I lost one of those silver needles. I do this once every few days, so I bought a set for making washcloths. Well, the sizes are similar, so I'm using one of those needles to finish the blinking thing. It's soft and pretty in person, but I look forward to its completion and distribution. If it doesn't sell, I'm giving it away to a needy person (likely a bff of mine who would want it).


I don't have pictures of my progress on Bliss's bucket bag. It's really coming along. Currently, it is in Dayna's floor in Muscle Shoals. I fear she (Bliss) got me wanting to do some cross-stitching. I've completed a little bib with a teddy bear on it, though I've no clue what to do with it; and I'm working on a little gift for Wil. It came from a book Katie gave to Bliss a while back and has two rats with a heart in between them and says "Rat Bastard." It's compliments of Subversive Cross-stitch, and I adore it. It's coming along beautifully. I hope to finish it tonight and have pictures posted soon. I'm very proud of my project, and I'm suddenly addicted to cross-stitching.

Craft night

I wanted to post this earlier, but I've been crazy busy.

Craft night this past Monday was marvelous despite the lack of a complete group. I really hope our group keeps growing so we have even more knowledgeable crafters so I can learn even more (always reverts back to me, notice).

I really am going to start cross-stitching soon. It looks so wonderful! Besides, I need wall art. I have a painting idea in mind involving the tree from Six Feet Under. I might incorporate some cross-stitching or embroidery if I get good enough to do so. We shall see, shan't we?

I have pictures I plan to post this evening of Dayna crafting in my floor and craft night Monday night. Until then, you must deal with this boring post relaying that I have a lot of ambitions to do more crafty things.

Reggie sent me a photo online asking if I could crochet this pony tail dread hat for him. I looked at it and see that it's just a double-crochet, basically. He asked if I could teach him, so he might join our craft events soon. I knit mostly, but crocheting is quick. It's pretty simple to teach too. We'll see. I'll post all these things soon in photos.

Oh, and I might add some photos of the reason I love the state of Alabama. We'll see. Later, gators.
